Week 06: Underground Comics

This week I read Underground Comics, which has been warned for weeks that sexual and discriminatory content is the main offensive comics. Underground Comics has a very different subject to deal with by the general comics we encounter. It is a small media or self-published comics, mainly socially related or satirical.

 Among them, I read the Fabulous Fury Freak Brothers No. 2 among many Underground comics. The main story of this book is that Freak Brothers uses guns to save his family in connection with drugs. It is about drug use. It was not easy to understand at first because the place where I lived was socially prohibited and the drug was prohibited.
The development of this book was very violent and I thought that I should never show it to children because it was very violent even if adults read it.

 Because there were many exaggerated and violent things, the lines used in the painting were emphasized more by using a very repetitive Hatching Style. It is serious in reality because it is exaggerated than the problem of reality, but it seems to be a little easier to get to because it is contacted by comics. Among them, I use a lot of Bold form in comics, and it seems to have saved the atmosphere of this comics one more layer. It was a comic that I had never seen before, so I was a little shocked but it was an interesting opportunity.

Week 01: Wordless Comics

This week, I got visual pleasure by reading Shaun Tan's “The Arrival”. Unlike comics, which are written or shown in conversation, these works proceed through sequential images of pictures. This kind of graphics is called wordless “Graphic Novel”. When we look at the title "The Arrival", we can guess that the story of this work has arrived somewhere away from somewhere. And in reality, this work proceeds through the frame of each episode arriving somewhere. Week 09: A wide world of comics

As soon as I saw the word "Pyongyang" in the list of books to read this week, I started to read this book with a familiar feeling. I am a South Korean, so the word Pyongyang is very familiar, but it is a divided country between South and North Korea, so the South Korean nationality does not have the authority to visit North Korea. So I started to read this book with the idea that I could see the presence of the place where the same culture and history of the past were. "Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea" is a book written by Guy Delisle. Delisle is a Canadian Quebec writer who wrote a book about his two months at a French animation company in Pyongyang, "Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea".
